The Monthly Performance review meeting of the Global Fund grants in Uganda was held on Thursday, 12th May 2022 at the Ministry of Health headquarters in Kampala. The meeting serves to assess and improve programme implementation of the three disease areas – HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria, in a bid to eradicate the diseases by 2030. The meeting also assessed COVID 19 Grant implementation and the status of a range of Global Fund related procurements. The meeting was attended by the Health Ministry Permanent secretary, Dr Diana Atwine together with key Global Fund programme implementers and officials from the Funds Coordination of the Global Fund grants from the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development. Relatedly, according to information shared at the performance review meeting, the Ministry of Health’s AIDS Control Programme (ACP) is keento reduce the number of youth and adult HIV infections by 75% and pediatric HIV infections by 95% by 2025. It is also keen to reduce HIV related morbidity and mortality and contribute to preventing new HIV infections by75% by 2025. The ACP is also keen to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on the implementation of the fight against HIV and to strengthen the multi-sectoral HIV and AIDS service delivery system that ensures sustainable access of efficient and quality services to all targeted populations.

According to the Ministry of Health’s Aids Control Programme, HIV Prevalence by Age remains highest between the age category of 45-49 years as per the comparison between the year 2016 and the year 2020 as the figure below indicates.
