Uganda set for World TB and Leprosy Day commemoration

Uganda will join the rest of the world on 24th March 2023 to commemorate World TB Day under the theme: Yes! We can End TB. The country will on the same day commemorate World Leprosy Day under the theme: “United for Dignity.”

This year’s event is scheduled to take place at Boma ground in Butaleja District. A range of activities has been planned by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with Development Partners, the host District, and communities in preparation for the National event.

Some of the planned activities include TB/Leprosy awareness through radio, TV talk shows, spot messages, and various social media platforms plus using the Health Care Workers to sensitize the community. The launch for community engagement activities will be held In Mukono district at the TangTang steel factory compound with sensitization and screening exercises for the employees.

Hotspot screening, testing, and treatment initiation will be conducted using the mobile clinic van. Community dialogue and sensitization meetings including exhibitions on innovations during the commemoration event will also be conducted.  The National TB and Leprosy program is leading the Ministry of Health commemoration engagements.
