Uganda gets additional COVID-19 Response Mechanism funds

The Global Fund recently approved Uganda COVID 19 Response Mechanism for Uganda. A total of US$28,950,087 was approved as additional investments for the country’s COVID-19 response. This brings Uganda’s total Covid 19 response mechanism award to $207,747,685.

The additional funding will cover the approved interventions and activities set out in the additional funding request Covid 19 resource mobilization Budget. According to Global Fund, the additional funding is expected to be used as soon as possible to address urgent needs and only for the purposes for which the funding was approved.

According to the implementation recommendation, as part of the funding, disbursement for oxygen pipes will be subject to a satisfactory readiness assessment of the HFs to fully utilize the oxygen pipes for the purposes of providing access to life-saving oxygen for patients in need of oxygen.

The implementation recommendation also noted the expectation for the Principal Recipient to work with the Ministry of Health and the Country Coordinating Mechanism to ensure periodic reporting on the country’s COVID 19 burden in accordance with the World Health Organisation.
